FAVORITE BOOKS I READ IN 2014
Since it's now time for Beach Reads, below is a list of the best books I read in 2014. There's a good mix of short stories, fiction and historical fiction, which is what I really want to read in the summer. They're listed in alphabetical order, by author.
Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant by Chaz Rost (graphic
Dare Me by Megan Abbott
The Fever by Megan Abbott (modern-day Salem witch trials)
Burial Rites by Hannah Kent (historical fiction, Iceland)
The Traitor's Wife by Kathleen Kent (early American historical, prequel to The Heretic's Daughter. Not as captivating as Heretic's Daughter for me, but pretty good, especially if you like historical).
The Assassination of Margaret Thatcher by Hilary Mantel (shorts)
Bark by Lorrie Moore (shorts)
Valentines by Olaf Olafsson (shorts)
Euphoria by Lily King (based on Margaret Mead) (so good)
The Bees by Paull Laline
The Divorce Papers by Susan Rieger (partially epistolary)
The Handsome Man's De Luxe Café by Alexander McCall Smith
Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon by Alexander McCall Smith
